Magical Texas Winter Snowfall hits Del Rio, Texas

Magical Del Rio, Texas Winter Snowfall of 2021

Just when you think you have seen it all…BAM…. an earth shattering Del Rio, Texas Winter snowfall happens out of the blue.  Most everyone in Texas lost power and water in actual winter temperatures!  The Texas power outage caused houses to average from 30-50 degrees indoors.  We have been stationed in Del Rio, TX for 3.5 years with the Air Force and haven’t seen snow at all during our time here.  My husband and I are from Wisconsin and felt right at home with the snowy atmosphere.  On the other hand, power outages in Wisconsin winter are NOT a thing.  I was always blessed with electric heat AND a wood burning stove.  We spent 4 days without heat and running water.  We made the best of the situation by taking long drives with friends while charging phones, making chili on the grill, playing boardgames while cuddled in all of our comforters, and spending time with friends going through the same situation.  We are blessed to have our power back on now.

As a Texas portrait photographer specializing in Newborn & Maternity photography, this landscape session was a first for me!  I quickly regretted not bringing a tripod.  I wanted to be able to capture Del Rio Texas in this historical moment.  I know many people will look back at these pictures in complete disbelief!  These photos were captured at the local San Felipe creek on Thursday February 18th, 2021.  Many families whose power came back on were wandering around the creek in complete awe. For most Texans, this is their first experience seeing snow!  My husband and I felt blessed to be able to go home to a warm house after this adventure to the creek.
